Intake criteria

The description of the range of children who would be considered appropriate contrasted with those that would not be appropriate is outlined below:

serious behaviour problemsyouth with personality disorders, learning disabilities, exaggerated emotional and behavioural difficulties and parental neglect children whose behaviour is such a threat to their personal safety that 24 hour awake supervision is required
special medical conditions or needsHIV or Hep B infections, epilepsy, FAS/FAE, diabetesblind, deaf, quadriplegia
developmental levelmild deficits to superiormoderately handicapped, PDD, including autism
family characteristicsphysical and sexual abuse, serious neglect, parental personality disorders and substance abuse
willingness to participate in treatment planchildren or parents who are unwilling to participate in the treatment planchildren who persistently refuse to accept placement
previous C.A.S involvement & placementsprior history of care, previous placements in Children's Mental Health Centres or psychiatric hospitals
psychological/psychiatric assessmentsnot necessary
academic historyexpelled from school
court involvementunder a YOA probation order, or under care by agreement to crown ward YOA custody order
